Increasing efficiency and revising the dimensioning
In addition to the standardised heating design of heat exchangers, CFD can be used to compute the targeted homogeneous inlet flow, the flow distribution, the pressure loss and the heat transfer (using CHT, Conjugate Heat Transfer).
For example, if higher temperature gradients are to be expected, then FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction) can be used to compute temperatures, tension loads and stress inside heat exchanger constructions.
